Another winner from Jumpstart! Review and Contest

Monday, November 2, 2009
Since my review of JumpStart's first-ever Wii game, Pet Rescue, my boys have thoroughly enjoyed their Wii time. The Pet Rescue game is definitely the most played game in my household! I had heard rumors of a new and upcoming game from the JumpStart crew, geared towards kids ages 5-9 and had been anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Once again, the boys and I were lucky enough to receive a prereleased copy to test out!

Escape From Adventure Island will hit retail stores nationwide on November 17th and is the second Wii game produced by Jumpstart.

Much like Pet Rescue, Escape From Adventure Island offers two game modes; Practice and Story. Practice mode provides quick and fun games such as Bubble Trouble and Manta Ray to improve your children's math and reading skills. However, the real fun begins in story mode, starting with the creation of your child's avatar. Children can create characters that match thier own personalities or get as wild as they want.

As the story begins your children become stranded on Adventure Island after a storm causes their blimp to crash. The player will need to navigate throughout the Island, completing tasks in order to earn sand dollars. These tasks, such as Manta Ray and Rubble Trouble, utilize a variety of math, reading, and critical thinking skills, creating an entertaining and education experience.

The collected sand dollars can be exchanged to purchase the helium tanks needed to repair the blimp, as well as purchase new clothes for thier advatar or parts to upgrade thier home on Adventure Island.

This game became an instant hit with my 5-year-old son. He loves the Jet Pack section, flying through the caves and shooting down the incorrect letters. Goon Lagoon is another favorite, in which he is required to find the objects hidden by the Punk Punks. I must admit, I loved these little characters as well! By jumping on a Punk Punk, you are able to temporarily paralyze them in place, which causes them to let out a little growl. They're the 'bad guys' of the game, but so entertaining! As with Pet Rescue, there are many different sections to this game and we simply haven't made are way over to many of them. I'm sure we will venture through the rest of the activities sometime soon, but in the meantime we've been too busy enjoying the other sections to see what else the game has to offer.

The best part of this game is the opportunity to improve your child's skills, such as grammar, measurements, casue and effect, spelling, multiplication and so much more, through a variety of entertaining and fun activities. Each section allows your child to choose their levels of play, selecting a lesson and difficulty suited to their skills. I wish they had a game like this when I was younger, because it makes learning so much fun!
